When Pippi Langstrumpf moves into the abandoned Villa Villekulla, a whirlwind enters the lives of the neighbours’ children Annika and Tommy. Along with her monkey Mr Nilsson and her horse Little Old Man, Pippi turns the children’s lives upside down. Every day becomes an adventure because she makes the world the way she likes it! With her charm and humour, the remarkable pirate’s daughter makes fools of anyone who tries to keep her in check, whether they are policemen, bandits or concerned neighbours – because she’s the strongest girl in the world!

What became one of the greatest successes for the children’s book author Astrid Lindgren started as a series of bedtime stories for her six-year-old daughter Karin in 1941. Pippi Longstocking is Lindgren’s answer to the way the world was then: an undaunted child, full of life and equipped with superpowers – which include her big heart and unshakeable belief in the good in people. However, the stories of Pippi Longstocking were not uncontroversial – either in Sweden or in Germany – arousing great concern that a cheeky and confident girl might set children a bad example.

Following «Ronja the Robber’s Daughter» Daniela Kranz brings another of Astrid Lindgren’s world-famous child heroines to the stage of the Residenztheater, telling the inspiring story of a girl who makes the world a livelier place with her bravery, imagination and big heart.
