Rudolf has been researching his favourite composer Mendelssohn Bartholdy for years, even decades. He considers his study to be the best thing he has ever written - only he hasn't written it yet. In a furious monologue, Thomas Bernhard's novel leads us into the epicentre of writer's block, in which man and the world struggle tragicomically with each other.
