Johannes Nussbaum
Geboren 1995, in Wien und in Niederösterreich aufgewachsen, studierte Johannes Nussbaum von 2015 bis 2018 an der Hochschule für Schauspielkunst «Ernst Busch» in Berlin. Bereits währenddessen war er auf der Bühne des Deutschen Theater Berlin zu erleben und gastierte in der Regie von Ulrich Rasche am Staatsschauspiel Dresden sowie bei den Salzburger Festspielen. 2016 erhielt er die bedeutendste österreichische Film- und Fernsehauszeichnung Romy als «Bester Nachwuchsschauspieler» für seine Rolle in der ORF-Serie «Vorstadtweiber». Johannes Nussbaum wurde im Rahmen des Berliner Theatertreffens 2019 mit dem Alfred-Kerr-Darstellerpreis ausgezeichnet.
Seit der Spielzeit 2019/2020 ist er festes Ensemblemitglied am Residenztheater. Seitdem wurde er im Jahr 2020 für die Darstellung des Kevin in «Die Verlorenen» von Theater Heute zum Nachwuschsschauspieler des Jahres gekürt und erhielt den Kurt-Meisel-Förderpreis, sowie den Bayerischen Kunstförderpreis in der Sparte Darstellende in 2023.
Aktuell ist er in der Netflix-Serie «Die Kaiserin» zu sehen, die als «Beste Drama-Serie» mit dem International Emmy Award ausgezeichnet wurde.

«Danton’s Death», written by the 22-year-old Georg Büchner in a mere five weeks in 1835 following extensive research, is based on historical sources and documents from the French Revolution, whose maxims of «liberty, equality and fraternity» shaped our understanding of modern European democracies. However, Büchner does not tell of the triumphant beginnings, the storming of the Bastille as part of a popular uprising that continues to be celebrated today, focusing instead on a few days towards the end of the Jacobins’ so-called reign of terror in the spring of 1794.

The story, it seems, takes little time to tell: a prince and a princess from neighbouring kingdoms run away to escape from an arranged marriage, fall in love with each other incognito and try to use their cunning to be able to choose the path of their own lives for themselves – only to realise at the end that they have run straight into the fate that had already been arranged for them.
