Erdem Avşar ist Dramatiker, Dichter, Forscher und Übersetzer.

Seine Stücke wurden in Schottland und Italien im Rahmen des Quartieri dell'Arte-Festivals, des Festivals «Yes, No, Don't Know» des National Theatre of Scotland und der Veranstaltung «Words, Words, Words» des Traverse Theatre gezeigt. Seine Arbeiten sind kürzlich in clavmag, Lune Journal, in der Anthologie The Book of Bad Betties (Bad Betty Press) und in dem Sammelband Collaborative Playwriting (Routledge) erschienen. Ein animierter Kurzfilm, der auf seinem Stück This is Everything I've Got basiert, wurde in einer Online-Ausstellung von UNESCO RILA uraufgeführt.

Er erhielt 2019 den Kevin Elyot Award (University of Bristol Theatre Collection). Außerdem war er einer der vier Gewinner der EU Collective Plays 2017! International Playwriting Competition. Er war Teil einer internationalen Gruppe von Dramatikern, die am Royal Court's New Writing Programme in Istanbul teilnahmen.

Er übersetzte Werke von Zinnie Harris, Kieran Hurley, Gary McNair, David Harrower und D. C. Jackson ins Türkische. Seine Übersetzung von Harris' Midwinter, die am DOT Theatre uraufgeführt wurde, wurde in die Ehrenliste 2017 von Eurodram aufgenommen.

Er ist assoziierter Künstler bei UNESCO RILA. Außerdem ist er Doktorand an der Universität Glasgow und erforscht die queere Politik des zeitgenössischen Theaterschaffens in der Türkei.

Erdem Avşar is a playwright, poet, researcher, and translator. 

His plays have been shown in Scotland and Italy as part of the Quartieri dell’Arte Festival, National Theatre of Scotland’s «Yes, No, Don’t Know» Festival, and Traverse Theatre’s showcasing event «Words, Words, Words». His work has recently appeared in clavmag, Lune Journal, in the anthology The Book of Bad Betties (Bad Betty Press), and in the edited volume Collaborative Playwriting (Routledge). An animated short adapted from his play This is Everything I’ve Got premiered in an online exhibition by UNESCO RILA.

He is an affiliate artist at UNESCO RILA. He is also a PhD researcher at the University of Glasgow researching the queer politics of contemporary theatremaking in Turkey.
