Davide Enia ist Dramatiker, Schauspieler und Romanautor. Er wurde 1974 in Palermo geboren und studierte nach seinem Abitur Literaturwissenschaft. Sein Stück «Italien – Brasilien 3:2», in dem er selbst spielte und Regie führte, wurde 2002 im Stadio S.Siro-Giuseppe Meazza in Mailand uraufgeführt. 2003 erschien «maggio ’43» (dt. «Mai ’43»), das mit dem ersten Preis als bestes Stück beim «Moldavian International Teatrul Unui Actor» ausgezeichnet wurde. Für das Stück, «Scanna», erhielt er 2003 den «Tondelli-Preis» für Dramatik beim Riccione-Wettbewerb für Theater und wurde 2004 in Eigenregie bei der Biennale in Venedig uraufgeführt. Für das italienische Fernsehen schrieb, inszenierte und spielte er «L’asso dell’aviazione» (dt. «Das As der Luftfahrt»). Es wurde am 10.9.2004 erstausgestrahlt und handelt von den Ereignissen, die sich im April 1943 in Palermo zugetragen haben.

Für seine Arbeit als Autor und Darsteller wurde Enia mehrfach ausgezeichnet, unter anderem 2005 mit dem «Hystrio-Dramatikerpreis» und ebenfalls 2005 mit dem «Olimpico-ETI-Preis» als bester italienischer Nachwuchsautor.

Sein erster Roman «So auf Erden» erschien 2012, war unter den Finalist*innen für den «Premio Strega-Preis » und wurde in achtzehn Sprachen übersetzt. 2013 war er in der Autorenresidenz der Niederländischen Stiftung für Literatur in Amsterdam und 2015 in der Autorenresidenz des Passa Porta in Brüssel. 2017 inszenierte er am Teatro Massimo in Palermo «L'oca del Cairo», eine unvollendete Oper von Mozart. Im Mai 2017 veröffentlichte er seinen zweiten Roman, «Appunti per un naufragio» (dt. «Schiffbruch vor Lampedusa»). Mit der Bühnenfassung «L'abisso» (dt. «Finsternis») des Romans war Enia auf Tournee durch Italien. Mit dem Monolog gewann er den «UBU-Preis» 2019 für den besten Text, den «Maschere del Teatro-Preis» 2019 als bester Monolog-Darsteller und den «Hystrio-Twister-Preis».

Im Jahr 2023 führte er Regie bei «Eleusi» für das Piccolo Teatro in Mailand, einem 24-stündigen Theaterritual mit mehr als 30 Chören für geistliche Musik und 21 Darstellern.

Davide Enia is a playwright, actor and novelist. He was born in Palermo in 1974 and studied literature after graduating from high school. His play «Italy - Brazil 3:2», in which he acted and directed himself, premiered in 2002 at the Stadio S.Siro-Giuseppe Meazza in Milan. In 2003 «maggio '43» (Engl. «May '43») was published, which was awarded the first prize for the best play at the «Moldavian International Teatrul Unui Actor». For the play, «Scanna», he received the «Tondelli Prize» for drama at the Riccione Competition for Theatre in 2003 and was premiered at the Venice Biennale in 2004. For Italian television he wrote, directed and acted «L'asso dell'aviazione» (engl. «The Ace of Aviation»). It was first broadcast on 10.9.2004 and deals with the events that took place in Palermo in April 1943.

Enia has received several awards for his work as a writer and performer, including the «Hystrio Dramatist Prize» in 2005 and the «Olimpico-ETI Prize» as best young Italian writer, also in 2005.

His first novel «Così in terra» (engl. On earth as It is in Heaven) was published in 2012, was among the finalists for the «Premio Strega Prize» and has been translated into eighteen languages. In 2013 he was in the author residency of the Netherlands Foundation for Literature in Amsterdam and in 2015 in the author residency of Passa Porta in Brussels. In 2017 he staged «L'oca del Cairo», an unfinished opera by Mozart, at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. In May 2017, he published his second novel, «Appunti per un naufragio» (Eng. «Shipwreck off Lampedusa»). Enia toured Italy with the stage version «L'abisso» (Eng. «Darkness») of the novel. With the monologue he won the «UBU Award» 2019 for best text, the «Maschere del Teatro Award» 2019 for best monologue actor and the «Hystrio Twister Award».

In 2023 he directed «Eleusis», a 24-hour theatrical rite featuring more than 30 music choirs and 21 performers, for the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
