Andreja Kargačin wurde 1999 geboren und ist eine serbische Performancekünstlerin, Theaterregisseurin, Choreografin, bildende Künstlerin und Autorin. Kargačin absolvierte die Ballettschule in Novi Sad im Fachbereich Zeitgenössischer Tanz und schloss ihr Regiestudium an der Fakultät für Darstellende Künste in Belgrad ab. Sie ist Mitglied des künstlerisch-aktivistischen Kollektivs Shock cooperative / Led art und Mitbegründerin des Tanzkollektivs ČETA.

Kargačins Arbeiten sind interdisziplinär, häufig politisch aufgeladen und beschäftigen sich mit kollektiver Erinnerung, totalitären Regimen und Geschlechterrollen. Sie hat an zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in Italien, Serbien sowie Bosnien und Herzegowina teilgenommen und Künstler*innenresidenzen in Italien, Serbien, Schweden und Deutschland absolviert. Sechs Monate lang war sie als Performerin in der Ausstellung «The Cleaner» von Marina Abramović tätig.

Im Jahr 2023 erhielt Kargačin den Novica Tadić-Preis für den Gedichtband «Slobodni dani Elene Čaušesku (Elena Ceaușescus freie Tage)» und 2024 den Iskra kulture-Preis für ihr gesamtes künstlerisches Schaffen. Sie führte Regie bei Werken wie «Holopartizanke» (2024), «At the Inland Sea» (2023) und «Brooklyn and Cats in Dumpsters» (2021) und schuf Performances und Installationen. Mit «Dora or Who’s Going To Stitch the Vests»ist sie 2026 bei den Wiener Festwochen zu Gast.

Andreja Kargačin was born in 1999 and is a Serbian performance artist, theatre director, choreographer, visual artist and writer. Kargačin graduated from the Ballet School in Novi Sad, specialising in contemporary dance, and completed her studies in directing at the Faculty of Performing Arts in Belgrade. She is a member of the artistic-activist collective Shock cooperative / Led art and co-founder of the dance collective ČETA.

Kargačin’s works are interdisciplinary, often politically charged, and explore collective memory, totalitarian regimes and gender roles. She has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has completed artist residencies in Italy, Serbia, Sweden and Germany. For six months, she worked as a performer in Marina Abramović’s exhibition «The Cleaner».

In 2023, Kargačin received the Novica Tadić Prize for her poetry collection «Slobodni dani Elene Čaušesku (Elena Ceaușescu’s Free Days)» and, in 2024, the Iskra kulture Prize for her entire artistic oeuvre. She has directed works such as «Holopartizanke» (2024), «At the Inland Sea» (2023) and «Brooklyn and Cats in Dumpsters» (2021), and has created performances and installations. She will be a guest at the Vienna Festival in 2026 with «Dora or Who’s Going To Stitch the Vests».
