Content description
In the new three-part series, members of the Residenztheater ensemble read new plays from Israel. The series begins with «Shura ( שׁוּרהָ ). The Craft of Identifying Life» by Roee Joseph, translated from Hebrew by Heiko Mönnich.
About the content of «Shura»
Reservist and playwright Roee Joseph spent sixty days at the Shura military base, where he took on one of the most difficult tasks imaginable: identifying the victims of the Hamas massacre on 7 October. Hour after hour, he and other soldiers searched for the smallest clues that could help them identify the bodies and give them a dignified burial. During the few breaks, Joseph opened his laptop and wrote down everything that was happening: what he saw and heard, the thoughts that went through his mind, and the brief conversations with the people around him.
Following the reading by members of the Residenztheater ensemble, there will be a discussion with author Roee Joseph, translator Heiko Mönnich, and the chairman of the Beth Shalom Jewish community, C. Bernd Sucher. The staged reading is directed by Antonia Schmidt.
