Isjtar Vandebroeck
Isjtar Vandebroeck (°1982, BE) works as a media artist, electronic music composer and performer. A first-generation native digital artist, he uses the computer as chisel, stone and looking glass. His work is transdisciplinary, as such he excels in collaborations and art-science-technology crossovers. Notable collectives were OKNO, Code31, Society of Algorithm and ATK!
Over the years his work has shifted from the sonic to the visual. At CREW he refined his skillset to include bleeding edge forms of XR.
As an experimental collective, CREW seeks to make visible the ways technology changes us. «Scientific Fiction» is the best way to describe CREW’s working modus: whereas science fiction is a genre that usually paints a fantasy future, the scientific fiction CREW creates, is a method that makes the future visible using new digital possibilities in the present to unlock, question and propose artistic alternatives.
Since 2019, Isjtar Vandebroeck and Eric Joris have formed the artistic heart of CREW. All productions since then have been created under their joint signature.
In the 2025/2026 season, they will present the project «Tremens» together.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s tragedy of Timon of Athens, «Tremens» is an immersive experience combining theatre with social Virtual Reality. The audience is invited to question familiar patterns of thought – and to use Virtual Reality goggles to experience the Residenztheater foyer as a space in which the overwhelming convergence of theatrical assertion and virtual boundlessness opens new perspectives on the present.
