Julia Hölscher

Born in Stuttgart in 1979, she initially trained as a singer before completing the director’s course at the Hamburg Theatre Academy. In 2007 she won the Best Young Director prize at the 4th Körber Studio Junge Regie. She was a resident director at Staatsschauspiel Dresden from 2009 to 2013 and directed further productions at Schauspiel Hannover, Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Tashkent Youth Theatre in Uzbekhistan and Theater Freiburg. In 2013 she directed her first opera, Mozart’s «Così fan tutte» at Theater Bielefeld. This was followed by subsequent opera productions at Staatstheater Oldenburg and Staatstheater Mainz. In 2015 Julia Hölscher became Resident Director at Theater Basel, where her productions included Mozart’s «The Magic Flute», Shakespeare’s «Twelfth Night» and Kleist’s «Amphitryon». In 2018 her Frankfurt production of Laura Neumann’s «The Ugly Universe» was invited to the Autorentheatertage at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. She also teaches at the Hamburg Theatre Academy, Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and Bern University of the Arts.

She became a Resident Director at the Residenztheater in the 2019/2020 season, and introduced herself with her production of Heinrich von Kleist’s «Amphitryon».
