Joe Hill-Gibbins

Born in Epsom near London in 1977, Joe Hill-Gibbins studied Drama at the University of Manchester. From 2009 to 2017 he was Associate Director at the Young Vic Theatre, London, where his productions included «The Glass Menagerie» by Tennessee Williams, «Measure for Measure» and «A Midsummer Night’s Dream» by William Shakespeare and «The Changeling» by Thomas Middleton and William Rowley. At London’s National Theatre he directed Christopher Marlowe’s «Edward II» and Rodney Ackland’s «Absolute Hell» and for the English National Opera, London, «Powder Her Face», a contemporary opera by the British composer Thomas Adès. In 2017 he directed Mark-Anthony Turnage’s opera «Greek» for Edinburgh International Festival. He directed «Mary Page Marlowe» by Tracy Letts at Theater Basel and «Richard II» by William Shakespeare at the Almeida Theatre, London in 2018 and in 2019 «The Marriage of Figaro» by Wolfgang A. Mozart at Oper Wuppertal (in co-production with the English National Opera).
