Why was Freddie Mercury drawn back to Munich time and again between 1979 and 1985? What sense of freedom did he find here, and what lasting impact have those years had to this day? The production »Mercury« also explores these questions. The »Finding Freddie« walking tour invites you to join this quest in the city itself, even before the show begins.
Together with Gay Guide Anian Halder, the tour offers insights into the queer Munich of the early 1980s. Drawing on historical sites, eyewitness accounts and the themes of the production, it offers an exploration of Freddie Mercury: not as a straightforward biography, but as a multi-layered figure straddling myth, memory and reality.
The urban space thus becomes a resonant space for the production. Afterwards, Anian accompanies the participants to the Marstalltheater. In this way, »Finding Freddie« combines the urban space and the stage into a shared theatrical experience and invites participants to rediscover Mercury within his historical and social context.
